ABOUT JESÚS
Biography
Jesús Núñez, a native of Spain, is a multidisciplinary abstract contemporary artist whose journey began with street art in Madrid. From a young age, his first step into the public art world was through graffiti. However, he initially pursued a career in the culinary arts, spending over 20 years as a professional chef. Jesús led renowned restaurants in New York City and Madrid, including three of his own: Gastroarte, Polenta, and Flou. He was celebrated for transforming his culinary masterpieces into edible art, with The New York Times comparing his cuisine to the works of the famed Spanish surrealist, Salvador Dalí. During the COVID pandemic, Jesús decided to return to his artistic roots, establishing himself as a creative visionary who pushes artistic boundaries. Now residing in Millburn, NJ, he incorporates personal stories and innovative techniques into his creations, inspired by his unique background as both a street artist and a chef.
Artist Statement
My work explores the boundless possibilities of abstraction, a journey where my artistic knowledge and culinary background fuse into this dynamic play. This fusion blurs the boundaries of conventional approaches, inspiring a unique dialogue between the audience and my art. My art invites me to experience the unexpected, where vibrant colors and textures converge, evoking visual and emotional responses. Each piece is a testament to my belief that creativity knows no bounds and can emerge from the most unlikely combinations. I experiment with the interplay of bold contrasts and subtle harmonies, creating energy and movement through unconventional lines. Using various materials, I manipulate form and space to create rich, multi-layered compositions that entice viewers to immerse themselves in the visual experience. The merging of a chef’s palette with the artist’s brush allows me to explore the tactile and visual qualities of different media, pushing the boundaries of my imagination.
